Red Oak Mountain is in a part of Fauquier County that is zoned as Rural Conservation. The area has been identified as a “critical environmental area” by the Commonwealth of Virginia for being in an area of unusual natural or man-made features worthy of protection by state and local governments.
350 acres of the property lie along Mitchell’s Branch – the headwaters of Goose Greek; and 150 acres lie along the headwaters of Thumb Run – a principal tributary of the Rappahannock River. Both watersheds are planned for special environmental protection by Fauquier County. |
