Conservation Value:	The easement restrictions will limit uses to those to not adversely affect the conservation and open space values of the property, the scenic values enjoyed by the general public, or the governmental conservation policies.

	Natural Resources

	Red Oak Mountain is in a part of Fauquier County that is zoned as Rural Conservation. The area has been identified as a “critical environmental area” by the Commonwealth of Virginia for being in an area of unusual natural or man-made features worthy of protection by state and local governments. 350 acres of the property lie along Mitchell’s Branch – the headwaters of Goose Greek; and 150 acres lie along the headwaters of Thumb Run – a principal tributary of the Rappahannock River. Both watersheds are planned for special environmental protection by Fauquier County.

	Scenic Resources

	Red Oak contains the southwestern, highly visible, natural and scenic landmark forested peaks and ridgeline of Red Oak Mountain, including the peak that reaches 1,225 feet in elevation.
