Kenwood Farm is a working farm with cattle and dairy herds as well as crop fields.  It is so representative of Virginia agriculture that it has been selected to be depicted on the Virginia license plate for farming.

The farm is located in the center of the County and is adjacent to Montpelier, the home of President James Madison.  The Property possesses significant natural, scenic, historic and open space values that are now preserved under this easement.

The Property lies in the an area designated by the Department of Historic Resources as the Madison-Barbour Virginia Rural Historic District – a district listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. 

   
  Natural & Scenic Resources
   
  The property is located in an area designated for agricultural uses by the Comprehensive Plan of Orange County which includes goals to "shield the rural character of the County from the undesirable effects of uncontrolled growth" and to "preserve productive agricultural land for farm use".
   
  Open Space
   
 

The Property has been eased in order to protect in perpetuity the open-space values.  The property fronts and is visible from the highly traveled US Route 15 and its undeveloped state provides scenic enjoyment to the general public traveling that route – a route recognized for its historic importance by resolution of the General Assembly, Senate Joint Resolution # 428 (2001) and by the creation of the non-profit organization, Journey Through Hallowed Ground, whose purpose is to seek the preservation of this corridor.
